Tri-State is an electric utility providing electricity to rural electric cooperatives.  We have a Geographic Information Systems Internship opportunity for 2025. Students who have successfully completed three (3) to (4) years of undergraduate study towards a Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Computer Science, Earth Science or Environmental Science from an accredited college or university are encouraged to apply. Seniors who will be graduating in December or are planning to attend graduate school in the Fall are also encouraged to apply.

This summer position offers students hands on experience to work in and learn various aspects of Tri-State’s GIS department. 

Responsibilities:

• Work with the Geospatial Data Systems Manager for task assignments and review of completed GIS tasks. 
• Assist staff with data conversion, map preparation and geospatial analysis. 

Projects may include the following:

• Support and assist staff on the Geographic Information System upgrade project, capital project support and ad-Hoc GIS requests. 

Job Requirements

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to problem solve and work independently.
• Highly motivated self-starter who likes to be challenged a willingness to learn. 
• Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
• Enrolled or completed a college curriculum that includes coursework in Geosciences, Environmental Science, Geographic Information Systems, Survey and Mapping technologies.

Duration, Work Schedule and Location

• The duration of the summer internship will be from about the end of May until the end of August.
• The work schedule includes Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., forty hours per week. There is a possibility of telecommuting 50% of the work week.  
• The position is located at Tri-State’s Headquarters at 1100 W. 116th Avenue, Westminster, CO 80234.
