Job Title: Remote Sensing and Photography GIS Analyst (Intermediate Level)
Location:
Fairfax County, Virginia

Salary: $42-$53/hr
Job Description:

The Remote Sensing and Photography GIS Analyst will support the analysis and interpretation of aerial and satellite imagery to produce high-quality geospatial products and support decision-making processes. This role involves working with various types of imagery and data, including multispectral, thermal, 3D mesh, point clouds, and LIDAR, and leveraging advanced technologies and techniques to achieve accurate and actionable insights.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Imagery Analysis: Perform interpretation and analysis of panchromatic and color aerial and satellite imagery to extract and classify planimetric features.
  • Data Integration: Work with imagery sources from fixed wing aircraft, Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), and satellites to integrate and process data for various applications.
  • Technology Utilization: Apply knowledge of imagery delivery systems, sensors, and underlying technologies to enhance data accuracy and utility.
  • Surface Modeling: Create and analyze surface models using digital aerial triangulation and other relevant techniques.
  • Accuracy Assessment: Conduct thematic map accuracy assessments and statistical sampling to ensure the reliability of derived products.
  • Land Cover Classification: Execute land cover classification and update procedures to maintain current and accurate planimetric data.
  • Image Object Detection: Utilize artificial intelligence techniques for object detection within imagery, such as identifying solar panels and swimming pools.
  • Reporting: Prepare reports and documentation related to analysis findings, methodologies, and recommendations.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geospatial Sciences, Remote Sensing, or a related field.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in remote sensing and GIS analysis with a strong background in working with aerial and satellite imagery.
  • Skills: Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS), remote sensing tools, and statistical analysis. Familiarity with UAS, multispectral, thermal, and LIDAR data is essential.
  • Technical Knowledge: Experience with imagery interpretation, digital aerial triangulation, surface model creation, and land cover classification.
  • AI Techniques: Knowledge of artificial intelligence applications for image object detection.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective reporting and collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications: Relevant certifications in GIS, remote sensing, or related technologies.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in GIS software and programming languages (e.g., Python) for data processing and automation.
  • Experience: Previous experience with large-scale data analysis and accuracy assessment projects.
