GIS Analyst

New Energy Equity

The GIS Analyst will play a crucial role in supporting the development of community solar projects by providing geospatial analysis and data-driven insights. This position will work closely with internal teams to identify optimal project sites, assess environmental constraints, and develop maps and reports that support project permitting, stakeholder outreach, and decision-making.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain GIS data, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
  • Support site selection for community solar projects by analyzing land suitability factors, including parcel data, proximity to electrical infrastructure, zoning regulations, and environmental constraints.
  • Create production-quality maps, spatial analyses, and visualizations to support project development and stakeholder engagement.
  • Perform tabular data analysis, including querying and data visualization.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including project developers, engineers, and permitting specialists, to define project site criteria and optimize community solar project siting.
  • Automate workflows using Python (ArcPy, Pandas, psycopg) and other GIS scripting tools to enhance efficiency.
  • Assist in the creation of outreach materials and presentations for community engagement efforts.
  • Troubleshoot GIS software and technology-related issues as needed.
  • Research emerging GIS tools and technologies to continuously improve workflows and processes.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of professional experience in GIS analysis, preferably within the renewable energy or environmental sectors.
  • Proficiency in ESRI software, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
  • Experience with geodatabase administration and spatial data management.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate spatial data into actionable insights.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of Python (ArcPy, Pandas), SQL, or other geospatial programming tools is a plus.
  • Experience with Tableau, Power BI, or similar data processing and visualization tools is preferred.
  • Familiarity with drone imagery processing and PV design software (PVsyst, PlantPredict) is a plus.
  • Passion for renewable energy and sustainability.

The expected annual compensation range for this position is $70000 - $80000, encompassing base pay and potential incentive target opportunity. This range is a good faith estimate based on the position's requirements. Specific compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary depending on factors such as relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, this position may qualify for a comprehensive benefits package, including Retirement Benefits, Medical, Dental & Vision, Health Savings Account, Flexible Spending Account, Life Insurance and Disability, Tuition Reimbursement, Voluntary Benefits, Paid Absences, and more.
