We are looking for a detail-oriented and motivated GIS Intern to join our team for Fall 2025. In this role, you will assist the GIS Manager in collecting, managing, analyzing, and visualizing spatial data related to the Atlanta Beltline project. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in GIS applications across urban planning, transportation, environmental analysis, and community development. Key Responsibilities:

The specific tasks assigned will depend on project needs. Tasks may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist in maintaining and updating GIS datasets related to infrastructure, transportation, land use, and environmental features.
  • Gather and process spatial data using GPS and field mapping techniques under the guidance of experienced staff.
  • Help develop and enhance static and interactive maps, dashboards, and visualizations using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and other web-based tools.
  • Participate in spatial analyses to support planning and decision-making processes.
  • Learn to integrate GIS data with various datasets to enable comprehensive analysis and reporting.
  • Contribute to creating GIS-based reports, maps, and visualizations for internal departmental use.
  • Support quality control checks to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
  • Collaborate with team members to understand GIS needs and provide technical support as required.
  • Understanding of the impacts of institutional and systemic barriers on marginalized communities and a commitment to integrating equity and inclusion throughout all facets of your work.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Currently enrolled in or in a graduate degree program in GIS, Geography, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with and ability to expand skills in ESRI ArcGIS software, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Field Maps.
  • Familiarity with spatial analysis, geoprocessing tools, and best practices in data management.
  • Basic knowledge of Python, SQL, or other scripting languages for GIS automation is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects efficiently.
  • Passion for urban development, sustainability, and fostering equitable community growth.
