This position assists the systems analyst in geographic data automation, production, and maintenance activities including data gathering, input and validation to assist citywide GIS projects.  The position will have a focus on field work and mapping transportation assets and other city assets that are maintained by the Public Service department.  The intern will also create map layouts and interactive maps as well as read and organize construction drawings.  This position may also assist in a variety of other work associated with GIS.  This position is considered unclassified as a seasonal position. Estimated season is May to August, and can be flexible according to the intern's school schedule.

The intern will assist the city's GIS and Public Service Departments with various tasks, including: 

• Data and Map Creation, Editing, and Analysis using Esri ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online
• Field Data Collection
• Records Research
• Performs related duties as assigned required by supervision
• Regular and predictable attendance required. 

The ideal candidate will have working knowledge of GIS and be enrolled in, or have completed, higher education in GIS or related studies. Experience using GIS software packages such as ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop (ArcView, ArcInfo, ArcEditor, or MapInfo) may be substituted for the educational requirement. Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) certification through the GIS Certification Institute may substitute for the education requirement; or, a combination of education and/or work experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities. 

Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and lift 50 pounds.   

A valid Ohio driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability under the city’s insurance policy.  Must pass pre-employment drug test and records check. 

The incumbent will need to be a motivated individual, responsible for working independently and be accountable for the time and resources provided.
