Position Description

Position Overview:

GIS Specialist III is expected to analyze, design, develop, maintain and support GIS Data, Solutions and Environments for County and public use.

 

The Day to Day:

  • Collaborates with developers and business analysts in designing and developing GIS applications

  • Build applications to provided specifications

  • Provide application support to end users and other departmental resources

  • Gather, analyze, and integrate spatial data from various sources to create maps and applications that meet end user requirements

  • Perform topology checks and other data quality checks to identify and correct errors in data

  • Create, organize, and update a wide variety of GIS datasets.
  • Geo-spatial data editing of geo-database data and shapefiles, end user support, data collection support, map production, and support of multi-user editing environments

  • Assists in research, compilation of data, accurate and timely data entry, and reformatting, interpreting, validating and cleaning of data, rectifying GIS data to aerial photography, and maintaining data accuracy for map production.

  • Provide leadership on GIS related projects and daily tasks to more junior team members

  • Ensure projects and assigned tasks are on time and meet quality standards

Requirements

Education:

  • A BA/BS in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Information Systems, Management of Information Systems, or Computer Science is required.

Experience:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in geospatial data collection, spatial analysis, GIS data conversion and maintenance, and cartography.

  • Experience taking conceptual ideas to finished product. Must have hands-on experience with ESRI toolset including: ArcServer, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Pro.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical staff/management.

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other departments/agencies, and the general public.

  • Skilled in creating and defining technical requirements from business requisite documentation.

  • Comfortable making decisions, identifying and resolving conflicts, and recommending alternative approaches.

  • Flexible and adaptable to change.

Preferences
  • Experience with relational database systems used with GIS desired.
