Roles and Responsibilities:
The GIS Specialist will be responsible for managing and analyzing spatial data to support the operations of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. This role involves creating and maintaining GIS databases, producing maps and spatial analysis, and providing technical support for GIS-related projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in GIS technology, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments.

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to bend, squat, lift, stand, see, hear, speak, have manual dexterity and ambulate independently
• Must be able to sit for long periods of time

Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in GIS, preferably in a law enforcement or public safety environment
• Proficiency in GIS software such as Esri ArcGIS, QGIS, and related tools
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and visualize spatial data
• Experience with GPS data collection and integration
• Knowledge of database management and SQL
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
• Familiarity with crime analysis and public safety applications of GIS is a plus
• Must be a US Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card
• Must possess a Social Security Card
• Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License or state-issued ID card
• Must not have been convicted of a felony
• Must not have used illegal drugs in the last 12 months
• Must not have received a dishonorable discharge from the United States Armed Forces
• Must be able to work various shifts with rotating days off, as well as weekends, holidays, and emergency events such as hurricanes
• Must be able to speak, write and understand the English language
• Must have knowledge of basic math, filing, and basic computer skills
• Must be able to follow oral and written instructions
