Job Summary

 

The City of Salem is looking for  Geographic Information System (GIS) Technicians to be a part of the Public Works Operations Division, Technical Services Section. 
 


What you will do:
The City of Salem is looking for three GIS Technicians. These vacancies are within the Public Works Operations Division, Technical Services Section. These positions offer an excellent opportunity to gain early career experience in GIS. These positions will focus on georeferencing engineering drawings and digitizing utility data in the City’s GIS enterprise system. These positions will also serve in the Public Works UAS program as a UAV pilots. These entry level positions will help refine and support a GIS based asset management system (Cityworks). Employees in this position can expect to grow their GIS career by supporting data collection, web GIS applications, and completing minor analysis. This position will work in a team environment that supports the entire Public Works Department.

  • Hybrid schedule: Our team follows a hybrid schedule working in-office at the Public Works department 2 days a week and remote 3 days a week with manager approval. This is subject to change based on business needs.

What are the minimum qualifications?

  • Must pass the pre-employment background check.
  • Must have an Oregon Driver license and meet the City of Salem's driving standards.
  • Bachelor's degree in geography, computer technologies, engineering, GIS or a related field; and one year experience using GIS software applications; or any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the examples of work.
  • Must pass the FAA Part 107 exam within 6 months from date of hire and maintain certification during employment.
  • Must meet CJIS (Criminal Justice Information System) registration and requirements within 6 months of hire.
