General SummaryUnder the direction of the IT Director, the GIS technician would be supporting the efficient functioning of GIS operations by ensuring the accurate collection, integration, and maintenance of spatial data. They would play a crucial role in producing and updating maps and other data within the city, which are essential for various applications and decision-making processes. Additionally, GIS technicians provide technical support and ensure data quality, enabling effective use of GIS tools and resources across different projects and sectors. This position exercises no supervision.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
•Gather, integrate, and manage diverse datasets for comprehensive GIS projects.
•Perform detailed analysis to interpret and visualize spatial data.
•Design, create, and maintain accurate and up to date maps.
•Oversee the organization, storage, and retrieval of GIS data in databases.
•Provide support and training for the effective use of GIS applications.
•Develop and customize GIS applications for both internal and external stakeholders.
•Collaborate with County GIS, CAD professionals, developers, and engineers, and generate detailed reports.
•Regular and consistent attendance of assigned work hours is essential.

Work performed is primarily light work, exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and handle or operate standard office equipment. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Work is performed in an office environment involves exposure to normal everyday risks typical of offices.
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:
Work requires possession of an associate degree in Geography, Geology, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or other related field and at least 2 years of professional GIS experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience and the following:
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of:
•Techniques for collecting and integrating data for GIS projects.
•Principles of GIS data management, including the organization, storage, and retrieval of data in databases.
Skills in:
•Analyzing spatial data to interpret and visualize information effectively.
•Designing, creating, and maintaining accurate and up-to-date maps.
•Providing support and training for the effective use of GIS applications.
•Developing and customizing GIS applications for various internal and external stakeholders.
•Collaborating with County GIS, CAD professionals, developers, and engineers, and preparing detailed reports.
Ability to:
•Oversee the organization, storage, and retrieval of GIS data within databases.
•Develop and tailor GIS applications to meet specific requirements.
•Maintain regular and consistent attendance during assigned work hours.
License, Certifications, And Other Requirements:
•Valid State of Texas Driver License
•Must pass a pre-employment background and MVR check
