Converting geographic information to digital data; maintaining base maps; preparing maps from geographic data; maintaining records and files; preparing maps.
The following functions are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.
Updates, corrects and maintains water,stormwater, electric, sanitary sewer maps and schematics using as- built drawings, field sketches, AutoCAD & ESRI software.
Prepares and updates maps using manual techniques and computer aided drafting systems: updates and corrects maps showing City limits, streets, street names, block numbers, etc. Converts (digitizes) paper maps by hand-held apparatus marking important details; records data in digital form. Researches property and owners using computerized tax mapping, deeds of record and maps of record.
Performs routine processing of various information for inclusion in various County geographic files; assist in the preparation of original maps, digital data, and drawings from aerial photographs and survey data.
Maintains files for City owned properties, utility easements, construction projects, subdivisions and keyed/grid maps for location of areas.
Prepares blueprints of construction projects and individual drawing.
Obtains price quotes for and orders drafting supplies.
Performs related tasks as required.
Coordinate data stream between GIS/Scada/Meter reading/Billing Systems.
Oversee use of ESRI software on department computers.
General knowledge and skill in operating tabular and graphic display and output devices associated with geographic information systems and other land information systems; general knowledge of manual and digital cartographic techniques and standards and traditional map production processes; ability to comprehend technical specifications for manual, computer-aided/automated cartographic products; ability to effectively communicate ideas both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, government officials and the general public.
Associates/Technical degree with coursework in computers, drafting, or related field and minimal experience in the use of geographic information systems, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, frequently using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires speaking or hearing and repetitive motions; work requires depth perception and color perception; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office with typewriters and/or computer printers, light traffic).
