GIS Technician/Specialist

The GIS Technician/Specialist will lead in the execution of GIS analysis, data research, data management and GIS methodologies to support a variety of Natural Resource and Renewable Energy projects.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Collect, download, correct, and export GPS data from Field Maps, Terrasync, and Pathfinder
  • Research published sources for spatial data, and convert data from various sources to usable formats
  • Desktop analysis of environmental constraints data
  • Perform geospatial data management, analysis, and documentation with high level of accuracy
  • Review and implement technical requirements to meet data collection and development standards and implement quality assurance procedures
  • Design, deploy, and manage geospatial data collection and reporting applications using data collected in ArcGIS Field Maps, Quick Capture, and Survey123
  • Utilize tools such as Python, Model Builder, Microsoft Power Automate, to automate workflows and streamline routine processes and tasks
  • Work with AI and Machine Learning to develop and implement geospatial modeling tools
  • Maintain quality assurance and organization of spatial data
  • Maintain expertise in existing and emerging GIS and data analytics software and technologies.
  • Market GIS to internal and external clients
  • Apply attention to detail with proactive and resourceful problem solving skills

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (Natural Resources, Geology or related field. 1-3 years of related experience
  • Experience with transmission siting and routing for infrastructure required
  • Experience with mapping streams, wetlands and T&E species required
  • Experience with ArcMAP 10.x and ArcGIS Pro 3.x software and ArcGIS Online or Enterprise GIS Systems. Experience with other geopatial software such as QGIS, GRASS, etc.
  • Cartographic knowledge and ability to communicate complex spatial data graphically
  • GPS field data collection and analysis experience using Field Maps/Collector
  • Experience with MS Office Suite – Proficient Excel and Access Database Preferred
  • Experience with AutoCAD software
  • Able to summarize and present complex datasets tabularly and visually
  • Able to manage GIS aspects of multiple projects at the same time
  • Knowledge of available data sources and ability to effectively research data
  • Thorough knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software including ArcGIS Desktop and Pro, ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Field Maps applications
  • Knowledge of multiple GPS units (Trimble, Arrow, Juniper ) and software and best practices associated with each
