JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians (ACBCI) seeks a GIS Analyst for its Tribal Historic Preservation Office (THPO). The Analyst’s primary responsibilities will include map production, the collection and research of data and information from a variety of sources for the development and maintenance of databases for the THPO.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned)
- Produce high-quality cartographic products for physical, digital, and online distribution.
- Create, edit, and verify geospatial data including metadata documentation.
- Perform spatial analysis on GIS data.
- Create statistical GIS summaries, tables, and reports.
- Collect data and information from a variety of sources for the development and maintenance of the THPO GIS databases. This would include, but is not limited to, the creation, verification, and update of various spatial data layers used in our studies.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive THPO geodatabases, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and security.
- Conduct spatial analysis and modeling to support cultural preservation efforts, environmental impact assessments, land use planning, and resource management.
- Data verification and collection field work which may entail the use of GPS technology.
- GIS support for environmental projects. This may include data creation, analysis, maps, research, and field work for the management and monitoring of the Tribe’s environmental resources.
- Assisting GIS Staff with standards establishment/execution, and system administration including, but not limited to, metadata standards, database design, and geodatabase administration.
- Maintain a personal knowledge of GIS innovations in related hardware/software technologies.
- Provides excellent guest service to both guest and internal clients.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, or related field, and two (2) years of practical work experience in a GIS discipline using Esri software is required, or;
- 4 years of practical work experience using Esri software. A GIS certificate from an accredited university or community college can substitute for one year of work experience in GIS.
- 1-2 years of experience in the use of Esri’s ArcGIS Pro software, and a working knowledge of Esri product extensions is preferred.
- Experience with Esri’s ArcGIS Server and Image Server, and the creation and deployment of map and image services is preferred.
- Experience with Esri’s ArcGIS Portal and ArcGIS Online, including the creation of story maps and web map applications is preferred.
- Working knowledge of enterprise relational database management systems, specifically ArcSDE and Microsoft SQL Server.
- Hands-on experience with GPS technology and field collection techniques is desired, primarily with Trimble handheld GPS units and Esri’s Survey123 software.
- Working knowledge of PC applications: Windows, Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word).
- Practical experience in cultural resource management is preferred.
- Excellent problem solving, time management and verbal/written communication skills including ability to communicate effectively with external and internal customers.
- Ability to work as a member of a team and work with tight deadlines.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
To perform this job successfully, the individual must work in both the office and field environments. The position requires physical activity and you must be physically fit. Other activities may include hikes of various durations, with packs/equipment for projects that are inaccessible by vehicle. Individuals will be required to walk/hike 8+ miles, climb stairs and walk on uneven surfaces. Additionally, the individual must be able to work long hours in outdoor weather conditions year-round, ranging from 32 degrees F. to 125 degrees F. and in direct sun, must be able to lift at least 50 lb. to waist level and be able to walk carrying the weight.
